...the four Solar festivals were added by some of the people from Gardner's London based group. The way we work now with the pattern of Solar/Nature festivals is that the Solar festival (Mabon in this case) is the start of the cycle that takes its shape at the Nature festival (Samhain) If you look at the traditional folk celebrations around Europe, Mabon is the only festival of the 8 that are now in use that was not widely celebrated. So there is not much to work with if you look at the folk customs that you can use in a Pagan celebration. What we (Dagda and myself) like to focus on when we celebrate Mabon is how the light year has come to an end. That the time of outward activity is now over, the harvest has been finished and that this is the period where you feed and nurture your spirit. We see it as the start of the descent into the Underworld, a journey that will finish at Samhain. Blessings, Boann
